A GUIDE TO HELP YOU PLAN YOUR NEXT MOVE
Whether you are moving down the street, across town or out of state – we are here to help! This is an easy timeline and moving checklist that can be a helpful tool to use when starting the moving process. Time will be at a premium on the day’s leading up to your big move, but we hope that this checklist can provide some organization and peace of mind.
3 – 4 WEEKS BEFORE YOUR MOVE
As soon as possible, give us a call to schedule a free in-home estimate. Once we get the estimate completed, we will get you on the schedule to secure the time and date that best accommodates you.
Declutter – start to clean out closets, garage, attic, basement, etc. Have a garage sale or donate any items that you no longer want, some charity places will even pick up your items for free.
If you have children and they are changing schools, make arrangements to transfer their school records and documents needed to make for a smooth transition between schools.
Get change of address cards from your local post office or change you can change your address online. Notify credit card accounts, insurance companies, clubs, and any other organizations of your change of address.
1 – 2 WEEKS BEFORE YOUR MOVE
Designate an “essentials area” of things you will need for the final clean-up and include snacks for the last day.
If you decide to pack yourself, label all moving boxes as you pack. Write the name of the room the box will be placed in to ensure that our movers are placing your items in the correct areas of your new space. Packing can be an overwhelming task not matter how the quantity of items that you have, which is why Copperstate is here to take that task off your hands. Our professional packers will take the time to carefully wrap and secure each item before it gets packed in a box.
Schedule disconnects for all your utilities such as gas, water, electricity and internet. If you have a landline, do not disconnect until after you move. However, leave that to Copperstate to take care of the disconnect and reconnecting of your utilities for you! We offer complimentary services that will take care of your utilities for you so you have one less thing to do during your move.
THE WEEK OF THE MOVE
Mail your change of address cards if you do not fill out the online form
Finish any last minute cleaning of your home before move-in day. If you are packing your own items finishing packing up your final items that you will not need until after you move in to your new space. Having everything packed up prior to our movers arrive will help to save time on the day of your move.
ONE DAY BEFORE YOUR MOVE
Have all refrigerated and freezer items storage in plastic zip-lock bags that are easily accessible for the next to put in ice chest to keep them cool.
Make sure all electronics and cords are disconnected and set in a designated box along with any remote controls to ensure they are easily accessible the day of the move if needed.
Make sure to get those last goodbyes in to your neighbors!
DAY OF YOUR MOVE
If possible, use a floor plan of your new home to map out with our movers of where you want your items. A Copperstate Team Lead will be on-sight with the crew and will take care of any questions or concerns that you may have.
Have an ice chest or cooler ready to put in your items from your refrigerator and your freezer.
Double-check closets, cabinets, storage areas and any other space that could have any last minute items.
After everything is moved from your space, do a final walk through with our Team Lead to make sure everything was accounted for.
Be prepared to pay for the services completed by our Copperstate Team. We accept cash, check or credit cards. Our Team Lead will be responsible from collecting any payment from you.
AFTER YOUR MOVE
Be prepared to receive a call from our Copperstate Team to follow up with you regarding your move. We hope that your move was beyond your expectations and if possible, share a review of us on Google or Facebook
