How To Label Boxes For Moving

When you are getting ready for your move, it is vital to plan and remain organized. It is the easiest way to stay calm and make moving a smooth transition. Packing in an organized manner will make unpacking that much easier! An easy way to do that is with labeled boxes.

Copperstate Movings has a few tips on how to label boxes for moving!

Prepare Packing Supplies

Before you start packing, you’ll need to prepare some packing supplies like boxes, bubble wrap, packing paper, packing tape, labels, and markers. There are plenty of places to get cardboard boxes and other supplies. There are different types of markers that can change your packing and labeling experience:

  • High-Quality Markers: Instead of trying to save a few bucks, go for the better quality markers that will not run out in the middle of work.
  • Waterproof Permanent Markers: Markers with good quality have vibrant colors and will be visible to read. Waterproof markers will also be a better option just in case it is a rainy day or your boxes accidentally get soaked.
  • Labels: You can download and print moving labels, purchase them online, check with your moving company, or make them yourself.

Make an Inventory List

Making a list of the items being packed and where they are packed will help you stay organized and keep track of your possessions. Start your list by going room-by-room from the top (attic) to the bottom (basement). Write detailed descriptions and names for each item, even down to the serial number. Take pictures of higher-value belongings, just in case there is any damage or accidents during the move.

Labeling the Boxes Will Help Your Movers

Our professional movers really appreciate it when they know exactly what is in each box and where they go. If we see labeled boxes “fragile” or “kitchen” we know to handle them with extra care and it will make the move smoother.

Ideas for how boxes can be labeled:

  • Label with content: One option is to write the contents of the box on it in a permanent marker. By doing this, you will be able to find specific items faster.
  • Label using a color: A creative way to label boxes is by using colored markers to write on them or colors tape. Pick a color for each room in the house and use that color marker or tape on all corresponding boxes for that room. That will make it easier for our Phoenix movers to know where each box needs to be.
  • Write numbers: Number your boxes 1 through however many you have, then on your inventory list, down which number box that item or room correlates with.
  • Labeling your boxes by room: The most common way to identify our boxes is by room. Unfortunately, it is not the best way. Only writing the room is not giving too much information when you search for something later. The more information, the easier unpacking will be.

Labeling High Priority Boxes

Once you have arrived at your new home, the last thing you want to be doing is opening and searching every box for that one important item you need. Labeling boxes as “high priority”. By writing the level of priority on each box it will bring ease to the unpacking process.

Label All Sides of the Box

Make sure whichever way you choose to label that you add it to all sides of the box so that our Arizona moving company won’t have to fumble around all the boxes looking for where that particular box goes.
